DASS: USPS Whistleblower Makes Clear Why Democrats Opposed Trump’s Anti-Voter Executive Order on Vote by Mail
WASHINGTON – Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS) Chair Cisco Aguilar released the following statement after media reports from a whistleblower that the United States Postal Service could prevent millions of Americans from voting by mail this year because of how it has rushed Donald Trump’s anti-voter executive order.
“The bottom line is that Donald Trump’s executive order is a barrier to voters exercising their right to vote by mail,” said Cisco Aguilar, Nevada Secretary of State and Chair, Democratic Association of Secretaries of State. “That’s why Democratic Secretaries of State stepped forward to fight for the rule of law, which makes plain that our elections are run by state and local elections officials, not the President. We will use every tool available to fight so voters can cast ballots by mail, and we expect the process will play out for some time. What hasn’t changed is that Democrats stood up for the Constitution while Republicans rolled over for Donald Trump and his attempts to control whose vote is counted.”
Earlier this year, many Republican Secretaries of States, including Iowa, Ohio, and Kansas, among others shared voter data with the Department of Justice to allow the Postal Service to improperly choose who will receive a vote by mail ballot, a role that the Constitution assigns to state and local election officials.
