WASHINGTON – This morning, Secretary of State offices across the country – Republican and Democratic – were recipients of yet another violent threat that disrupted critical operations and forced office evacuations. Secretaries of State and election administrators widely have been the target of a rising tidal wave of violence and harassment engendered by Republican attacks on our democratic processes.
Democratic Association of Secretaries of State Executive Director Travis Brimm issued the following statement:
“The threats to our democracy from violent, right-wing actors are real. After years of Republicans paying homage to crackpot conspiracy theories and kowtowing to the most tenebrous corners of the Internet, we are witnessing the result: death threats; mass departures from nonpartisan election posts. Republicans should grow a backbone and condemn these violent threats and the leaders of their party who continue to make them.”
