On Monday, January 30, the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS) held elections for its Executive Committee. Re-elected to the position of Chair, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold. Re-elected to the position of Vice-Chair, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon. Elected to the position of Treasurer, Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar.
Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, Chair of DASS, issued the following statement in response to this year’s election results:
“I would like to thank my colleagues for their trust and confidence in re-electing me as the Chair of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State. I am honored to continue the work of protecting democracy with Secretary Simon as Vice Chair, Secretary Aguilar as Treasurer, and all the Democratic secretaries.
Two years ago, the country was at a crossroads. Election deniers were working to topple American democracy. DASS quickly grew into a forceful organization that helped stop election deniers from becoming secretary of state in every battleground state and helped elect pro-democracy champions.
American voters chose democracy in the midterms, but as a nation, we are not out of the woods yet. Extremism and election denialism are still corroding the United States. I look forward to the work that lies ahead to protect American democracy as we begin this next chapter.”
This cycle, DASS helped lead the defeat of election denier candidates for Secretary of State in every battleground state, including Michigan, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Minnesota.
