WASHINGTON D.C. — After Bee Nguyen won Georgia’s Democratic run-off election for Secretary of State, Semedrian Smith, Deputy Executive Director of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS), issued the following statement:

“Georgia voters overwhelmingly backed Bee Nguyen’s historic candidacy for Secretary of State because they know she will safeguard free, fair, and secure elections. Georgians deserve a Secretary of State who will fight for all eligible voters’ right to make their voices heard.

“On the other hand, Brad Raffensperger has spent years restricting Georgians’ constitutional right to vote. While he admits the 2020 election was safe, secure, and accurate, Raffensperger has supported the restrictive voter suppression policies that have taken away Georgians’ freedoms.

“With Bee’s candidacy, Georgians can choose a Secretary of State who will fight for accessible and secure elections, and ultimately ensure that everyday people get to choose their elected representatives.”
