WASHINGTON D.C. — After Cisco Aguilar secured the Democratic nomination and Jim Marchant clinched the Republican nomination for Nevada Secretary of State, Semedrian Smith, deputy executive director of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS), issued the following statement:

“Cisco Aguilar is the Secretary of State Nevada needs and the only responsible choice for the office. His unprecedented fundraising and support from voters shows Nevadans want to protect one of the best election systems in the country and expand access to the ballot box.

“With Jim Marchant as his opponent in November, the choice before voters is clear. Cisco is a competent leader, an attorney who will uphold the law and act in the best interest of Nevada, a small business owner with deep roots in the community, and the only candidate committed to protecting the right to vote for all Nevadans, regardless of their zip code, party, or the color of their skin.

“Meanwhile, Jim Marchant is an election denier and conspiracy theorist with ties to QAnon who will not hesitate to tilt elections in his and his allies’ favor. He is unfit to serve as Secretary of State and his extreme agenda is completely at odds with what most Nevadans want.

“The stakes could not be higher. This race will determine the future of voting rights in Nevada, whether the battleground state will see free, fair, and secure elections come 2024, and determine if Nevadans can elect leaders who will deliver the kind of change most of them want.”
