WASHINGTON D.C. — After incumbent New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver won yesterday’s Democratic primary, Kim Rogers, executive director of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS), issued the following statement:

“We’re happy to see that New Mexico voters agree: Maggie Toulouse Oliver is one of the most talented, experienced election administrators that this country has to offer. For over a decade, Secretary Toulouse Oliver has worked tirelessly to facilitate free, fair, accessible elections throughout Bernalillo County and New Mexico because she believes in democracy. Her extensive experience in the elections space speaks to her passion for this work, and the results speak for themselves.

“Under The Secretary’s leadership New Mexico residents have come to enjoy some of the strongest voting rights in the nation. She led the charge for pro-democracy reforms that make New Mexico a safe haven for accessible elections, and she overhauled the state’s campaign finance system to combat dark money’s influence in our politics. In addition to innovating the Secretary of State role, Toulouse Oliver facilitated the highest turnout election in New Mexico’s history during a global pandemic and unprecedented efforts from a sitting president to compromise our elections system.

“This year’s elections are important and the stakes are high. Brazen election deniers are running to control future elections so that they can pick and choose the winners, regardless of who the voters want. We can’t have that, and the best way to ensure that democracy thrives in New Mexico is to re-elect Maggie Toulouse Oliver to another term as Secretary of State.”
