Democratic Association of Secretaries of State on The Supreme Court’s Decision to Hear Moore v. Harper

Jul 14, 2022

WASHINGTON D.C. — In response to The Supreme Court decision to hear Moore v. Harper, Kim Rogers, executive director of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS), issued the following statement:

“The Supreme Court’s decision to hear the ‘independent state legislature’ theory behind the Moore v. Harper case brings us one step closer to a judicial coup. For over a year now, gerrymandered Republican state legislatures have done everything within their power to cripple our democracy and rewrite election rules to their advantage with the full blessing of this Supreme Court.

“If the Justices again side with extreme Republicans, they will bestow significant control of our elections onto hyper-partisan state legislatures that will tilt results in their own favor. This is as close as we’ve ever come to the clock striking midnight on American democracy, and that’s why we need Democratic Secretaries of State who are committed to fighting for the right to vote for all eligible Americans.”
