WASHINGTON – Following today’s vote by the GOP controlled Michigan House of Representatives to hold Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson in contempt for following the law and upholding the integrity of elections in Michigan, DASS Chair Cisco Aguilar released the following statement:

“For Democratic secretaries of state, nothing is more important than election security. Across the country we’ve seen partisans looking to undermine the fact that elections in America are safe, secure, and accessible.

“Across the country we’ve seen careless and frivolous requests for the release of sensitive materials; materials that could be used to undermine voter confidence and election integrity. Secretary Benson and her office are only being responsible by asking Republicans to justify seeking this sensitive information. This vote is nothing more than a partisan attack against a dedicated defender of democracy.”
