Democratic Secretaries of State Praise LeBron James, other Athletes for Efforts to Fight Voter Suppression
Today, Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS) Chair and California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, released the following statement praising LeBron James and other American athletes that have stepped up to work to protect and promote our right to vote through the newly formed organization More Than a Vote.
“LeBron James has a unique ability to reach and inspire millions of Americans who have too often been victims of voter suppression,” said DASS Chair and CA Secretary of State Alex Padilla. “LeBron’s efforts are not only welcomed, they are needed. We especially need to educate young voters about the stakes in this election up and down the ballot, from protecting our right to vote to electing representatives who will work to dismantle systemic racism and institutional discrimination in its many forms. And as we prepare to vote during the Covid-19 pandemic, voices of influential professional athletes and artists will be critical to educating voters about their options for voting in a way that keeps them safe and healthy. I look forward to working with More Than a Vote to fight voter suppression and to educate Americans about the importance of showing up this November and in every election.”
