Statement from Colorado Secretary of State and DASS Chair Jena Griswold on Senator Manchin’s Release of Supported Voting Rights Provisions

Jun 17, 2021

In response to the release of voting legislation provisions supported by Senator Joe Manchin ahead of a vote in the Senate on the For the People Act, Secretary of State Jena Griswold (CO), Chair of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State, released the following statement:

“Senator Manchin’s support for legislation that would expand early voting, ban partisan gerrymandering, automatically register voters, and curb the influence of dark money in politics is a step in the right direction. Given the unprecedented scale of the coordinated attacks on our democracy, Congress must take action now to protect democracy and stop the voter suppression tactics being implemented across the nation. Democratic Secretaries of State are working every day to defend and expand access to the ballot box. We look forward to working with the Senate on these proposals so that every eligible voter can have their voice heard in our nation’s elections.”
