DASS Statement on Trump’s Latest Unconstitutional Attack on Vote by Mail sent

WASHINGTON – Nevada Secretary of State and DASS Chair Cisco Aguilar sent out the statement below:

“President Trump’s newest executive order is not just an attack on vote by mail, but an outrageous and unconstitutional attack on the rights of state and local officials to administer elections. Secretaries of State and other election administrators are busy running our democracy and calling balls and strikes, and the president is trying to change the rules in the middle of the game because he’s worried he might lose.

“No matter what he says now, the President knows our election system is safe, secure, and reliable because he himself cast a mail ballot last week, barely a day after he baselessly called mail-in voting ‘mail-in cheating.’

“At a time when we have citizens engaged in combat operations abroad, this executive order is a reckless and irresponsible attack on the ability of the nearly 4 million members of the U.S. military serving abroad or domestically outside of their home state to cast a ballot.

“This executive order is a blatant attempt to use the federal government and bully states into making it harder for people to vote, especially in rural areas. Democratic Secretaries of State will use all the tools at our disposal to fight this unconstitutional attack on the right to vote.”
