WASHINGTON – Today, to mark the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s administration, DASS Interim Executive Director Drew Godinich released the following statement:

“Today marks 100 days since Donald Trump returned to power — and in that short time, he has shown the American people that he poses a grave and existential threat to our democracy.

“From the start, Trump has acted not as a president for all Americans, but as an aspiring king – determined to weaponize the federal government, punish his opponents, and benefit himself and his wealthy donors. He has attacked the independence of the judiciary, politicized the Department of Justice, and encouraged extremist efforts to undermine elections at every level. As we speak, his GOP allies are waging war on Americans’ voting rights.

“These are not isolated incidents. They are part of a clear and deliberate strategy to dismantle the checks and balances that have protected our democracy for nearly 250 years. Trump’s first 100 days are a warning: if he is not held accountable, he will go even further.

“At DASS, we know that democracy doesn’t defend itself. It depends on all of us — in every state and every community — standing up, speaking out, and defending our institutions. Trump’s assault on democracy must be met with unwavering resolve. We are committed to fighting for free and fair elections, for the rule of law, and for a government that truly represents the people.”
