Sarah Copeland Hanzas (D)
Sarah Copeland Hanzas, a lifelong Vermont resident, was elected Secretary of State in 2022 after serving 18 years in the legislature. She has worked on expanding voter access, modernizing state programs, and championing climate action.
Sarah is known for her leadership on racial justice, sexual harassment legislation, and protections for first responders with PTSD. She led the passage of Vermont’s Global Warming Solutions Act and has been a strong advocate for reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and sensible gun safety reforms. As Secretary of State, she continues to improve Vermont’s government transparency and civic engagement.
