WASHINGTON D.C. — After New Jersey Secretary of State Tahesha Way was elected to be president of the National Association of Secretaries of State, CO Secretary of State Jena Griswold, chair of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS), issued the following statement:
“We congratulate Secretary Way on her historic election as the first-ever Black president of the National Association of Secretaries of State. This appointment is a testament to Secretary Way’s commitment to civil rights, voting rights, and the administration of safe, secure, and fair elections.”
“Throughout her tenure as New Jersey’s Secretary of State, Tahesha Way has confronted and overcome a range of unprecedented challenges that speak to her strong leadership. In 2020, she oversaw the highest turnout election in state history amidst the COVID pandemic. She worked diligently to update New Jersey’s election infrastructure and improve key election security, all while achieving a complete count for the 2020 Census.
“Secretary Way is exactly who this country needs to bring Secretaries of State together to strategize and collaborate in defense of our democracy. We celebrate her appointment, and look forward to her leadership in the coming years.”
