WASHINGTON D.C. — After Bill Galvin secured the Democratic nomination for reelection, and Rayla Campbell clinched the Republican nomination for Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Semedrian Smith, deputy executive director of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS), issued the following statement:

“Secretary Bill Galvin has done a terrific job serving as Massachusetts’ top election official. He fought to expand mail-in voting, which helped drive the highest voter turnout that Massachusetts has recorded in decades. He will work to ensure that every Bay Stater has an opportunity to vote, and help protect Massachusetts’ free, fair, and secure elections. At a time when our democracy faces an existential threat from extreme Republicans, Secretary Galvin will stand up to the false claims and conspiracy theories that are poisoning our elections.

“Rayla Campbell, however, is a danger to democracy. She’s embraced fringe conspiracy theories and spread Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 election. Campbell cannot be trusted to conduct our elections fairly, and would be willing to ignore legitimate results to hand elections to Donald Trump and the MAGA crowd.”
