WASHINGTON D.C. — After Sec. Doug La Follette secured the Democratic nomination for reelection, and Amy Loudenbeck clinched the Republican nomination for Wisconsin Secretary of State, Semedrian Smith, deputy executive director of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS), issued the following statement:
“Americans have never faced a greater internal threat to our democracy than we do today. Less than two years ago, the former president orchestrated a scheme to overturn a free and fair election to keep himself in power. As part of that plot, his team enlisted a group of loyalists to call themselves electors, and created fake documents to be sent to Congress and counted on January 6th. In service to his country and to the voters of Wisconsin, when Wisconsin Secretary of State Doug La Follette was handed these phony documents, he took them, smiled, and left them where they belonged – in the bottom of a drawer. Had someone else with less integrity held his office and authenticated those papers, the country would have faced an even greater constitutional crisis than it did during the remaining days of the Trump presidency. Secretary of State Doug La Follette has proven that he will protect our right to vote and defend our democracy.”
“Amy Loudenbeck, meanwhile, is no friend to American democracy. She supported a scheme to steal voters’ power and let MAGA Republicans hand-select the winner of our next presidential election. She echoes Trump’s election lies and she refused to say that Joe Biden won the 2020 election fair and square. It is time that Amy Loudenbeck denounces Donald Trump, Senator Ron Johnson, and others who wish to poison our democracy. Electing Loudenbeck would elevate someone who would needlessly politicize the office of Secretary of State.”
