Statement from Colorado Secretary of State and DASS Chair Jena Griswold on Possible Second Audit in Arizona and Arizona Republicans’ Targeting of Sec. Katie Hobbs

Responding to the news this morning that the Arizona Senate is considering a second election audit, and the news earlier this week that Arizona Republicans have introduced a bill to strip Secretary Hobbs of her ability to defend election lawsuits, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold issued the below statement on behalf of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS):

As Democratic Secretaries of State, we stand in support of Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who has tirelessly defended democracy from unprecedented and ongoing attacks on democracy in Arizona. The news this morning that the Arizona Senate is considering a second sham audit, coming on the heels of this new bill, would be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous. They hired a partisan firm with no election experience to conduct a faulty, unsecure audit; and now they’re considering a second one. These sham audits are nothing but a shameless partisan power grab, coupled with what is a transparent attempt to punish Secretary Hobbs for standing up for Arizona’s voters.

“Let’s be very clear — we are seeing coordinated attacks on the right to vote and the integrity of our elections nationwide, and these latest schemes out of Arizona should alarm us all. Secretaries of State will continue to do our jobs, regardless of the partisan rancor. Secretary Hobbs has said she will not be deterred, and neither will any Democratic Secretary of State.”
